Our Work
Friends of Megan Animal Rescue gives new hope to sick, neglected, and abandoned animals in Oaxaca, Mexico, through rescue, medical attention, sterilization, and socialization.

We seek good homes for them once they’ve been given time to heal and are ready to begin anew. We also provide education on the proper care and humane treatment of pets for new owners, as well as the community at large.

With the help of Luciano, our local veterinarian, FOMAR provides free or low-cost sterilization and vaccination clinics in Oaxaca. These clinics, held quarterly in San Pablo Etla and in neighboring villages like San Agustín, make vital veterinary care accessible for families who might otherwise face barriers such as cost, transportation, or work schedules.
By reducing overpopulation and improving animal health, FOMAR’s clinics create lasting benefits for both pets and the communities that care for them. We hope to expand by working with interested community members who could host even more of these life-changing events. Contact us to help host an event!

Friends of Megan has been rescuing animals and providing care and services to animals in need in Oaxaca for a decade. The organization is the go-to community resource in San Pablo Etla for nurturing, socializing, and finding good homes for abandoned or sick animals — dogs, cats, even burros and horses.

While financial support is key to getting our work accomplished, partnering with like-minded organizations in the greater Oaxaca community means providing greater access to resources in the area that can help animals in need. FOMAR has happily developed and enhanced contacts with other rescue initiatives, listed below and to the left, and made a concerted effort to refer people to local efforts where appropriate.
